Dusseldorf.  Die Ente Restaurant [$$,**], Rathelbeckstr. 319, Unterbach.  Tel. 02 11 / 20 27 48. This lovely off-off-off-the-beaten-path restaurant specializes in the culinary arts of the Goose.   Well worth a detour from Düsseldorf Centre.  (Unterbach is a suburb.  Near intersection of the A3 autobahn and Highway 46.)    Herr and frau proprietors are wonderful hosts and treat you like family.   Lots of Geese memorabilia (collected by Frau proprietor) decorate the walls.  Call ahead for dates of Goose season specials.

Luneberg.  (2007) Medival town near Hamburg makes a good base for exploring surrounding countryside, villages, canals, and hiking/biking the very long path along the River Elbe  [**]

A section of the hiking/jogging/biking pathway along the Elbe.  The path  mostly runs along the dike.  A local artist sells her art and extraordinary homemade pies at this stop (above Left) on a 2 km offshoot from the main path.  On a post in the distance  is a stokes nest.
