Hamburg makes a good base for exploring surrounding countryside, villages,
canals, and hiking/biking the very long path along the River Elbe

A section of the hiking/jogging/biking pathway along the Elbe. The
path mostly runs along the dike. A local artist sells her art
and extraordinary homemade pies at this stop (above Left) on a 2 km offshoot
from the main path. On a post in the distance is a stokes nest.
