One day on the canal we tied our boat up at Vaux for lunch. The small
village offers a pleasant 10 minute stroll and an exceptional cafe-restaurant
Le Saint Vincent [**,$] (which is right by the dock as you can see in
the above photos). There are two dining rooms: one in the front with
view of the canal, and the other a back room. By some unwritten agreement
the front is occupied by the canal tourist traffic and the back is occupied by
the local workers, sitting on long tables commune style. We shared a table
in the back with what appeared to be farmers or workers in the local vineyards.
For less than 10 euros per person we had appetizer dish, main course, dessert and
cheese plate. Red wine was served in carafes. Lunch break for the
workers and for us stretched to two hours. Both the food and
wine were exceptional.
